01 Overview
MealFed is a live food-delivery product for underserved Nigerian cities. It spans a customer ordering app, a vendor dashboard, delivery tracking and onboarding, with a separate MealFed Delivery app for delivery operations.
02 The problem
Food delivery in these cities runs on weak networks, informal addressing and small merchants who do not want to learn a new app. A conventional delivery UI built for stable connections and street addresses would not load reliably, would not convert and would not earn trust.
03 Constraints & user needs
- Low-bandwidth, intermittent connectivity for both customers and vendors.
- Landmark-based addressing instead of reliable street addresses.
- Small merchants onboarding without dedicated staff or training.
- Real-time ordering and tracking that must stay coherent when the connection drops.
04 My role
Built the full Flutter UI across customer ordering, the vendor dashboard, real-time tracking and onboarding flows, with offline-first behaviour throughout.
05 Product & engineering decisions
- Replaced star ratings with repeat-order signals as the primary trust cue, because repeat purchases are harder to fake and easier for new customers to read.
- Designed a WhatsApp-first vendor onboarding flow so small merchants could join without installing or learning a new app on day one.
- Added landmark-based delivery input so riders and customers could agree on locations the way people actually describe them.
- Shaped every screen around low-bandwidth use: minimal payloads, cached state and graceful degradation when offline.
06 Interface & technical implementation
- Flutter / Dart interface architecture shared across customer, vendor and tracking surfaces.
- Supabase as the backend for data and real-time ordering state.
- Paystack for payments.
- Offline-first flows so the app remains usable while connectivity recovers.
