01 Overview
Kayu Surfboards is a Bali-based maker of sustainable balsa-wood surfboards. The store includes a product catalogue, a custom-board configurator, a consignment system and a multi-category shop.
02 The problem
Handmade boards are not standard SKUs. Customers want to configure a board, and the business also sells on consignment, so the shop needed more than a stock catalogue.
03 Constraints & user needs
- Custom-board configuration alongside regular catalogue products.
- A consignment system with its own listing logic.
- Multiple product categories under one shop.
04 My role
Designed and built the e-commerce experience including the configurator and consignment flows.
05 Product & engineering decisions
- Built a custom-board configurator as a first-class path instead of forcing custom orders through a contact form.
- Gave consignment listings their own treatment within the shop.
06 Interface & technical implementation
- Product catalogue
- Custom-board configurator
- Consignment system
- Multi-category shop
